4 × 1000m Mixed Relay

The Mixed Relay turns open water into a true club event. Teams of four swimmers, with a mandatory two-female and two-male line-up, each take on a 1000m leg before handing over in a live exchange zone on the pontoon or shoreline. It is high-energy, easy to follow, and creates repeated moments of pressure, noise and momentum as positions change throughout the race.

For swimmers, it is one of the most exciting ways into open water competition: the distance is accessible, the team environment reduces first-race nerves, and every leg feels important. For coaches and clubs, it adds a layer of tactical decision-making around leg order, pacing and squad balance, while also creating one of the most visible and photogenic formats of the day
